Dell EqualLogic PS6200 Series

Hardware Overview

  • 2U (X, S, XS), or 4U (E) configurations available

Initial Setup

  1. Power machine and connect via serial cable to active storage controller (The serial settings are: 9600 baud, no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no flow control).
  2. Login with group username and password (grpadmin/grpadmin is the default).
  3. Answer "Yes" to configuration wizard prompt.
  4. Answer "Yes" to second configuration wizard prompt.
  5. Set name of machine.
  6. Set network interface (eth0 is the default).
  7. Set IP of machine.
  8. Set Netmask for IP.
  9. Set the default gateway.
  10. Set machine password.
  11. Set group name of storage.
  12. Set IP address of storage group.
  13. Set password for group if prompted or enter password if joining an existing group.

Setting management network

  1. Having logged into the Group Manager and selected the member from the members list, open the "Network" tab.
  2. Right click on "eth2" (or management interface if different) and select "Modify IP settings".
  3. Set the management IP of the storage array.
  4. Set the Subnet mask of the management IP.
  5. Enable interface.
  6. Restrict to management access.
  7. Click "OK".

RAID configuration

  1. Login to Group Manager by entering the group IP address into your browser. Username is "grpadmin" and the password is the set group password.
  2. Expand "Members" group in left panel and select the storage device.
  3. Click "Yes" to the popup asking if you want to configure storage RAID.
  4. Set name of storage device.
  5. Click through dialogues keeping the default settings and finish.

Pool configuration

  1. Having logged into the Group Manager, click on the "Volumes" button towards the lower left corner of the screen.
  2. Expand "Volumes" on the left panel and create a new volume.
  3. Set the name of the volume.
  4. Select the storage pool for the volume.
  5. Click "Next".
  6. Set the volume size and click "Next"
  7. Select "Define one or more access points".
  8. Add a vmhost with vmhost hostname and vmhost IP.
  9. Click "Next".
  10. Keep clicking next until finish.

Upgrading firmware


Known issues

  • Restarting system whilst performing initial configuration will break system and cause continuous failure requiring a call to DELL tech support. This is corrected in recent BIOS versions.
