Installation

This page covers user installation paths for the current public release, v0.9.1.

Android

Requirements:

  • Android 8.0 or newer.
  • Bluetooth Low Energy support.
  • Permission to install an APK if you are installing outside an app store.

Install options:

  1. Join the Android beta from the project site: https://dasblueyeddevil.github.io/Project-Phoenix-MP/#beta-signup
  2. Download ProjectPhoenix-v0.9.1.apk from the v0.9.1 GitHub release.

If Android blocks the APK, allow installation from the app that opened the file:

  1. Open the downloaded APK.
  2. Tap Settings if Android asks for permission.
  3. Enable Allow from this source for your browser or file manager.
  4. Return to the APK and tap Install.

Android permissions:

  • Nearby devices / Bluetooth: required to scan for and connect to the trainer.
  • Location on Android 11 and older: required by Android for BLE scanning. Project Phoenix does not use this for location tracking.
  • Health Connect permissions: optional, only needed if you enable Health Connect from Integrations.

Updates:

  • Install the newer APK over the existing app. Your app data should remain in place.
  • Back up your data before major updates or if you are switching devices.

iOS And iPadOS

Requirements:

  • iPhone or iPad running iOS/iPadOS 14.0 or newer.
  • Bluetooth Low Energy support.

Recommended install:

  1. Install TestFlight from the App Store.
  2. Join the Project Phoenix beta: https://testflight.apple.com/join/TFw1m89R
  3. Install the app from TestFlight.

Advanced sideloading:

  1. Download ProjectPhoenix-v0.9.1.ipa from the v0.9.1 GitHub release.
  2. Install with AltStore, Xcode, or Apple Developer tooling.
  3. Trust the developer profile if iOS asks.

Sideloaded apps may need periodic refresh depending on your Apple account and tooling. TestFlight is the easier path for normal users.

iOS permissions:

  • Bluetooth: required to scan for and connect to the trainer.
  • Apple Health: optional, only needed if you enable Apple Health from Integrations.

Before Your First Workout

  • Put the phone near the trainer.
  • Confirm Bluetooth is enabled.
  • Power cycle the trainer if it does not appear.
  • Open Diagnostics-and-Troubleshooting if the connection flow stalls or disconnects.
