this repo is pure AI slop. im irredemeable as a developer and im dragging you down with me. enjoy blindly copy pasting commands into the terminal. if you are trying to use multiple drives to expand storage, use LVM (the docs are decent, I see no need to provide any information beyond 'google ubuntu lvm' ).

we're using linux because it's too hard to pirate windows and learning windows server might accidentally cause me to break out in responsibility at my day job. we're using ubuntu because I like saying 'ubuntu'.

You buy a black and white TV and you turn it on - you have access to everything that is available to watch. The world switched to color screens, then bigger screens, then flatter screens, and this continued on. But someone, somewhere decided that not enough money was being made. So they figured out how to get us to pay for TV and they called it 'cable' and 'satellite' and put all the good shows on it. But then we had to work so much to pay for all the channels that we started missing the shows when they came on! So they started selling DVDs of the shows, but those were taking up too much space, so they decided to put TV on the Internet! And this was great for while, until some shows started only coming out on the Internet! And now it costs more to watch all the shows on the Internet than the shows on the TV!

Quick Start Guide

Step 1: Install Ubuntu Server

1. Download Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS (or desktop if you're scared and have a nice system to run this on) from ubuntu.com. Debian support is planned for the future, but currently only Ubuntu is supported.

2. Create bootable USB drive (usbimager.exe)

3. Install Ubuntu Server on your target machine - you will likely need to plug your system into a monitor while you do this. If you bought a cheap-o server it may not have onboard Wi-Fi and you'll need to get creative with a Wi-Fi USB dongle or something similar. A certain integrator has some TP-Link wireless bridges that work well for this. Hopefully someone you know loves you enough to help you with this.

4. (Optional) get a NordVPN subscription. I could have set this up to use OpenVPN and had it be provider agnostic, but we're not here because we're intelligent, are we?

5. Important: Create a user account during installation (remember username/password)

Step 2: Connect to Network

If using WiFi:

If using Ethernet: Should connect automatically, if not, open a ticket with an IT professional of your choice

Step 3: Get System Ready

Step 4: SSH Access (Recommended)

Once network is established, you can use SSH from another computer for easier management:

Windows/Mac: Use Terminus

Terminal Copy/Paste Tips:

• Copy: Right-click selected text or Ctrl+Shift+C
• Paste: Right-click in terminal or Ctrl+Shift+V
• Select text: Click and drag with mouse (just like any other app)
• Regular Ctrl+C/V won't work - you need the Shift key!

⚠️ STUPID PROBLEM WITH TERMINAL ⚠️

DO NOT PRESS Ctrl+C DURING INSTALLATION!

Pressing Ctrl+C and ending it can be problematic if you're in the middle of something important (like the qbitorrent setup)

ssh username@YOUR_SERVER_IP

Replace username with your Ubuntu username and YOUR_SERVER_IP with the IP from Step 3.

Step 5: Install This Media Server

Once this script finishes, your system will be permanently changed. Do not be alarmed. Do not adjust your picture.

Long story short, set up Prowlarr with your 'indexer' (look it up), connect radarr and sonarr to prowlarr, then connect them to qbittorrent. everything is in /srv/serverFilesystem - /downloads will be categorized by service to keep folders clean. then -arr services softlink the files and organize in /media, it doesn't duplicate files like it may seem at first. unpackerr unzips for you but doesn't have gui to manage, you need to check logs if you notice failures. otherwise, unzip manually in /downloads then mannually set the missing file in the respective -arr app. once you have files downloaded, you can set up plex to go through /media and set up streaming your downloads. connect overseer to your plex to makee requests, but set up quality profiles so things can happen somewhat automagically without grabbing massive HD versions of media (this is biggest pain in ass to get working right of the whole thing, i am pretty happy with 6 tb of across 3 drives in LVM - check your local area for electronics recycling places)
