When Hugo builds the home/search bundles, the partials pipe the TSX output through babel, which loads website/babel.config.js and its @babel/preset-react import. This bump moves @babel/core to 8, but the lockfile still resolves @babel/preset-react to the 7.x preset pulled in by babel-preset-next; Babel 7 presets assert a Babel 7 core and fail when loaded by core 8, so any website build that emits those JS assets will stop before generating the site. Upgrade/add a matching React preset or keep the Babel toolchain on 7.x together.

The website still processes css/style.css through PostCSS and postcss.config.js registers tailwindcss itself as a PostCSS plugin. With Tailwind 4, that plugin was moved out of the tailwindcss package, so production/preview Hugo builds will fail during CSS processing unless @tailwindcss/postcss is added and the config is updated, or Tailwind stays on the v2/v3 plugin-compatible package.

Upgrading the top-level alpinejs to v3 while leaving @ryangjchandler/spruce at 2.7.1 makes the lockfile install two Alpine copies: Spruce depends on Alpine 2, while the app imports Alpine 3 directly. The site's state is still created with window.Spruce.store('global', ...), but templates run against the directly imported Alpine instance and read $store.global for dark mode, tabs, and version selectors, so those interactions lose the shared state on pages with Alpine directives. Migrate the state to Alpine 3's store API or upgrade/remove Spruce with the Alpine major bump.

The upgraded glob-promise package declares glob as a peer and wraps the callback-style glob(pattern, options, cb) API (https://github.com/ahmadnassri/node-glob-promise#install), but this package does not add a compatible direct glob dependency; after this bump the only locked glob is v13 from Babel, which no longer provides that callback function shape. When the preview/production search steps run yarn typesense-index, scripts/typesense-index.ts calls await glob(section.path), so the Typesense indexing step can throw before the index is generated. Add a compatible glob dependency or switch the script to the native glob API.

With this bump, js.Build resolves Alpine's ESM module for the existing import 'alpinejs' in assets/js/app.js; Alpine v3's module build only exports the Alpine object, while only the CDN build calls Alpine.start() automatically. Because the app bundle never imports the default, assigns window.Alpine, or calls Alpine.start() after registering state, every x-data, @click, and x-show directive on the generated site remains inert. Use the documented v3 module setup or keep the v2 package.
