Switch Adaptor Kit

Accessible gaming interface for children with cerebral palsy and related motor conditions

Overview

Switch Adaptor Kit is a modular hardware and software system that enables accessible gameplay using adaptive switches, robotic actuation, and mobile control.

The system translates simple user inputs into complex in game actions. It supports physical switches, Bluetooth inputs, and robotic manipulation of controllers or board game pieces.

Built in collaboration with The Pace Centre.

Features

• 3.5 mm adaptive switch input • Bluetooth connectivity • Mobile companion app control • Radio frequency control for RC devices • Robotic arm with solenoid gripper • Magnetic chess and board interaction • Multiple pre set game modes • Portable CCU housing

System Architecture

Input layer Adaptive switches Mobile app commands Bluetooth devices

Control layer Central Control Unit (CCU) Microcontroller processing Signal translation

Output layer Robotic arm actuation Controller button pressing Board piece manipulation

Hardware Components

• Central Control Unit (custom enclosure) • Microcontroller with Bluetooth support • Robotic arm platform • Servo motors • Solenoid end effector • 3.5 mm jack interface • RC radio transmitter module

Software Stack

• Embedded microcontroller firmware • Bluetooth input parsing • Signal mapping logic • Mobile app interface • Robotic control routines

Build Instructions

  1. Fabricate CCU casing from CAD files
  2. Assemble robotic arm and servos
  3. Install solenoid gripper
  4. Wire switch input to CCU
  5. Flash firmware to microcontroller
  6. Pair Bluetooth devices
  7. Calibrate arm movement
