title: What changed? Why?

  • This revision makes the documentation more forward-looking, clearly signaling Base's autonomy while maintaining accuracy on compatibility during the transition.

  • Reflects Reality (Feb 2026 Announcement): Base is actively decoupling core development from the multi-repo OP Stack to a single Base-managed stack. This enables independence in upgrades, security council changes (Optimism removed), proof systems, and more.

  • Developer Clarity: New builders should see Base as its own evolving platform first, not primarily as an OP Stack chain. This reduces outdated assumptions and support questions.

  • Forward-Looking Tone: Emphasizes benefits (speed, custom features, control) that match Base's vision — positioning it as a leader in L2 innovation rather than a fork/derivative.

  • Still Accurate & Helpful: Retains compatibility reassurances (happy path first) while transparently noting the transition and legacy elements. No breaking changes for existing apps.

  • Fully Compliant: Stays within base-chain/ structure, uses Mintlify components, cross-links, active voice, and follows all style/review rules from the README.
