The `no-unnecessary-type-assertion` rule in @typescript-eslint 8.59.1 now
catches more cases where type assertions are redundant. This caused 113 lint
errors across the codebase.

Changes:
- Remove `as BaseFlags` casts that are now flagged as unnecessary (flags typed
  as Record<string,unknown> is already compatible with method signatures)
- Remove resulting unused `BaseFlags` imports and `BatchContent` interface
- Fix `no-base-to-string` in json-formatter.ts by using explicitly typed
  intermediate variables before calling String() on unknown-narrowed values
- Fix `no-base-to-string` in push/batch-publish.ts by using typeof narrowing
  instead of String() on unknown error.code
- Add `app?: string` to AblyConfig.current type to properly model the legacy
  config field that the migration code reads, removing the need for an
  assertion that 8.59.1 now rejects

  • This caused 113 new lint errors (all `no-unnecessary-type-assertion`) across 38 files.

What was fixed

  1. as BaseFlags casts removed (auto-fixed via eslint --fix) — flags typed as Record<string, unknown> is now recognized as directly compatible with method signatures, making the cast redundant. 15 files had the resulting unused BaseFlags import removed manually.
  2. BatchContent interface removed from channels/batch-publish.ts — became unused after the as BatchContent cast was auto-fixed away.
  3. json-formatter.ts — fixed two no-base-to-string errors exposed by removing String(data as string | number | boolean | bigint | symbol). Used explicitly-typed intermediate variables so no-base-to-string is satisfied without re-introducing an assertion that triggers no-unnecessary-type-assertion.
  4. push/batch-publish.ts — replaced String(error.code) (where error.code: unknown) with a typeof narrowing check (typeof error?.code === "string" || typeof error?.code === "number") to satisfy no-base-to-string.
  5. services/config-manager.ts — instead of fighting the assertion on the migration variable, added app?: string to AblyConfig.current type (with a legacy comment). This correctly models the on-disk data format that existed before migration and removes the need for the assertion entirely.

Verification

  • Build: ✅
  • Lint: ✅ (0 errors, 7 pre-existing warnings)
  • Unit tests: ✅ 2417 passed
  • Web CLI tests: ✅ 57 passed

Notes for reviewer

  • The AblyConfig.current.app type change is the only semantically interesting change. It adds an optional app?: string field to the current section of the config interface, representing the legacy config format that the migration code in loadConfig() handles. This field is never written by current code — only read during migration and then deleted. The change is accurate and safe.
  • The no-deprecated warning for currentlyTyping in rooms/typing/subscribe.ts was pre-existing and is not addressed by this PR.
