Currently in the game, all supply gatherers go to the closest supply dock/pile (SUPPLY_SOURCE) and collect from there until it has depleted.
When multiple gatherers are built, they will queue up.
I think it would be interesting to have them check for free SUPPLY_SOURCEs and evaluate if its quicker to wait or to go to the free source - to have them harvest more efficently, like in other C&C games Tiberium or ore is harvested.
This would enable map makers to have more granular control over money deposits and reduces micro time on maps that have multiple sources near each other - like Lone Eagle
