Due to the recent updates, dependency layers master branches can't be used. E.g. see pending release bumps #897

Just as a minor comment. Thanks for merging this that quickly, I wasn't expecting that to happen without a few review iterations TBH, and I should've had to mark it as a draft initially. Anyway, this was just for completion :-) no problems arising from this MR, it's just that the commit log has a few TBD sections.
