Additionally, I wonder if the scream_output.monthly.yaml file should be added to the directory itself.

I'll update this and push my commit. I will probably just comment out this block and note that it is an example of how to add output streams. I will then refer the user to example YAML files that reside with in this repo to provide a starting point.
