🎨 github-syntax-themes - Give your code a new look

📋 About This Project

This software adds new color themes to code on GitHub. Code blocks, pull request changes, and markdown snippets often look plain. This extension changes the colors to make code easier to read. You can pick your favorite theme from a list. The extension updates the GitHub interface instantly.

We built this for people who work in GitHub every day. Good colors reduce eye strain. You can choose from light or dark modes. Our collection covers many programming languages.

⚙️ System Requirements

This software works on Windows computers. You need one of the following web browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Brave
  • Vivaldi

Make sure your browser is up to date. Old versions might cause display errors. You do not need developer tools or extra plugins.

📥 How to Download

Visit this page to find the correct file for your browser.

  1. Click the link above.
  2. Look for the section called Assets.
  3. Download the file ending in .zip.
  4. Save the file to your desktop.

🛠️ Installation Steps

Follow these steps to add the theme switcher to your browser:

  1. Locate the file you saved to your desktop.
  2. Right-click the file and select Extract All.
  3. Open your web browser.
  4. Type chrome://extensions in the address bar and press Enter.
  5. Look for a switch in the top right corner labeled Developer mode. Turn it on.
  6. Click the button that says Load unpacked.
  7. Select the folder you extracted in step two.
  8. The GitHub Syntax Themes icon now appears in your browser toolbar.

🖥️ Using the Extension

Navigate to any page on GitHub. Click the GitHub Syntax Themes icon in your browser toolbar. A small window appears. This window displays all available themes. Click a name to select it. The colors on your screen change immediately.

If you want to return to the original look, select Default from the list. The extension saves your choice. It remembers your theme even if you close the browser.

🎨 Available Themes

We offer several styles to match your preference:

  • Midnight: A dark theme with high contrast for low light.
  • Forest: Soft green tones to reduce glare.
  • Ocean: Deep blue colors for focus.
  • Sunset: Warm orange and purple shades.
  • Classic: A modern take on standard GitHub styling.

We add new themes with every update. Check the releases page for announcements.

💡 Troubleshooting

If you do not see changes, check these items:

  • Refresh the GitHub page.
  • Check that the extension icon shows a green light.
  • Ensure you are logged into your GitHub account.
  • Check if another extension blocks color changes. Disable other themes to prevent conflicts.

If the extension stops working, remove it. Go back to the extensions page in your browser. Click Remove on the extension card. Download the latest version again and follow the installation steps.

🛡️ Privacy and Safety

This extension only modifies how GitHub looks on your screen. It does not record your keystrokes. It does not send your data to outside servers. All color changes stay local to your computer. Your account security remains intact. We do not track your activity on GitHub or any other site.

📦 Updates

We release updates to support new browser versions. When a new version comes out, download the fresh zip file from the link. Delete the old folder. Follow the installation steps again to install the new version. Your settings usually transfer, but you might need to re-select your theme.

🤝 Support

We built this for the community. If you find a bug, report it on our GitHub page. Include your browser name and the version number of the extension. Describe what happens on the screen. We look at these requests to keep the tool working. You can also suggest new color palettes. We welcome input on creating high-contrast themes for better accessibility.

The project uses the WXT framework for smooth performance. This ensures the extension stays light. It will not slow down your browsing. GitHub pages will load at the usual speed. Enjoy your new coding workspace.
