Support Braille files?

This idea came to me out of the blue a few days ago. Any chance of supporting Braille files, normal extension .brf although I used to see .brl? I assume you'd probably use Liblouis for back translation, though I have no idea how that actually works when integrated into another app.

This would be great to have, I think, and I hope it would be easy given that the files themselves are quite simple

Yup, I've been considering this for quite a while. It'll require slightly more work on my part as liblouis doesn't appear to have a ready-to-use VCPKG port, so I'll have to write my own, but it should be plenty doable.

You'd probably need a setting in the options panel to specify the translation table, as BRF files have no metadata. I tried doing a heuristic on this once and compare the sizes of the translations between computer braille, contracted and uncontracted results, but it was really iffy and dumb and I wish I'd not bothered.

the most complex approach would be a choice of translation table on import, but I personally would prefer a set-and-forget approach in the options, given the rarity with which I'd import braille and the consistency of the format those files would be in in the first place.

Nods I agree, soon I'm going to have to make the settings dialog a tabbed interface. I'm thinking of defaulting to computer braille and just letting you pick any table supported by liblouis.

Wow I never even thought of the problem of choosing a Braille table. I'd tend to say you should probably have a default Braille table, but there should be some way of opening a Braille file with a different table on a one-time basis.
