[Android] Reintroduce HMS Support

Summary

In v4.19.0, HMS support was removed due to the 16 KB page size limitation.

Since then, Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) / Location Kit has added support for 16 KB page sizes, which appears to resolve the original constraint on Huawei’s side.

Question

is there any plan to reintroduce HMS support in a future release?

The background geolocation SDK has been completely refactored since the HMS support was removed (because they were too late supporting 16 KB page size).

I will not make the same mistake twice by tightly integrating the HMS support as before. There is no timeline for this.

Thanks for the clarification.

We have a large number of users on Huawei devices, so this is unfortunately bad news for us.

Since we’re still on v4, would it be possible to:

• restore/revert HMS support in the v4 line using the updated (16 KB–compatible) HMS version?

We’re also happy to help with testing or validation if that makes it easier.

Otherwise, any guidance on the recommended approach for supporting HMS alongside the SDK would be greatly appreciated.
