Hopefully constructive 2 cents, having joined two Discord channels elsewhere this year with completely fresh eyes:

1. Channel descriptions - These are unnoticeable in general. Not something I think is any mod team's responsibility. They're at the mercy of my (or anyone's) ui.

2. The server guide - compared to other channels, it does a really good job at keeping it at a realistic length and I only just got to appreciate that this past month because of my opening sentence. That said though, it's not informative on the whole.

From my pov, itcould be more informative by deferring some lines to the moment when someone makes their first post in any given channel (you've probably discussed this before - it's not an original idea but I'm proposing it's worth revisiting).

I agree; this is an ongoing concern of mine. I wish Discord would make channel descriptions a lot more visible.

I'm a fan of progressive disclosure. What could this look like? From my mind, it could be one or more of:

1. Reply to a user who hasn't posted in more than 30 days. Unfortunately Discord bots are constrained to opening public threads or posting public messages; they cannot be exclusively visible to the person they're replying to.
2. Maybe if the bot can open a private thread with users who post for the first time since a set number of days, they can do that to share channel rules without distracting everyone else.

I gave it some time to dig through the docs before giving a reply, but struggling with a mental model of the references.

This is pretty hacky but we could try to copy over the way Svelte Bot privately messages just the one user, when it needs to give feedback on the result of a user-invoked bot command (Application Command).

For example if i hit /question solve on a svelte-and-kit-questions thread that's already been marked, Svelte Bot will message me only in the thread to let me know.

Same with click on closing embeds in tech-chat, when i'm not the original owner of the thread being embedded.

Maybe new users with a join date < a certain threshold automatically have to invoke a /firstpost command and Svelte Bot messages them with guidelines of the channel.
