I just talked with a researchers here who does games and education, and she suggested another broader impact of the work would be on K-12 educators. She trains teachers who teach programming, and tools that would identify code smells, or show how code differs in quality using smell metrics, would be very helpful for grading and educating students. Just wanted to document and share this thought before I forgot. :)
