On Linux Mint, mapping Caps Lock to Ctrl doesn't work in Lagrange

I'm running Lagrange 1.19.4 on Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon (64-bit).

I've mapped my Caps Lock key to Ctrl in System Setting / Keyboard
Caps Lock behavior: Make Caps Lock an additional Ctrl

This works on most apps on my system, but Lagrange ignores the Caps Lock key - it can't be used either as Caps Lock or Ctrl.

The left and right Ctrl keys both work correctly in Lagrange.

There is an earlier issue about this: #87

I added the "modmap.txt" config file to address this use case. You could see if editing it helps, for example:

caps -> Lctrl

I replaced the caps -> caps line in modmap.txt with caps -> Lctrl and restarted - it didn't have any effect.
The file was in ~/.config/lagrange
There was another copy in ~/.var/app/fi.skyjake.Lagrange/config/lagrange which I also changed when I found it, still no effect.
