Cycling through halves with two displays moves window to another display

I have a MacBook Pro with a Studio Display plugged in, arranged above the MBP. I have thirds, halves, and first two thirds mapped to ^Q, ^W, and ^E, respectively, and ^Q and ^E do exactly what I want, cycling through the thirds and two thirds for a window on the display it is currently on, without moving the window to the other display.

However, cycling through halves does move displays:

• Focus a window on the studio display
• Type ^W, it moves to the left half of the studio display, as expected
• Type ^W again, it moves to the right half of the MBP, instead of the right half of the studio display
• Type ^W again, it moves to the left half of the MBP
• Type ^W again, it moves to the right half of the studio display

I expect the window to stay on its current display, like the first third and first two thirds cycles do.

Ah, got it. I didn't know what a "half action" was. But that solves my problem.

Actually, that doesn't quite do it. With ^W set to "Left", and "cycle sizes on half actions" selected, there is no cycling between left and right. I don't see a way to repeat cycle between left and right. Am I overlooking a way to do that, or would I have to map another key to "Right"?

I see. You can quickly make your own shortcut to do this:

Click the plus button and select new repetition to add that second one. You can directly select the Left and Right presets, (rather than left and right position) so that you can avoid having to enter the size.

As an aside, there is a terminal command setting that enables this functionality for left/right half, but only if you have one display. This isn't a common request that I've come across, but if more people are looking for it then I don't mind adding another option for it, potentially in the UI.

Ah, nice! That's a cool little scripting feature. I tested it and it meets my needs. The asymmetry of this between 1/3rds and 2/3rds is a bit weird, but that's a design and learnability nit since this is expressible. Thanks!
