This guide helps you migrate from the open-source edition to the full MarkView extension available on Chrome Web Store.
The full MarkView extension includes powerful productivity features not available in the open-source edition:

Choose your browser:
- Visit Chrome Web Store - MarkView
- Click "Add to Chrome"
- Confirm by clicking "Add extension"
- Visit Edge Add-ons - MarkView
- Click "Get"
- Confirm by clicking "Add extension"
To view local markdown files, you must enable file access:
- Navigate to
chrome://extensions/(oredge://extensions/for Edge) - Find MarkView in the extension list
- Click "Details"
- Scroll down to "Allow access to file URLs"
- Toggle the switch to ON
If you manually loaded the open-source edition:
- Go to
chrome://extensions/ - Find the manually loaded "MarkView" extension
- Click "Remove"
- Confirm removal
Note: Removing the open-source edition will not affect the full extension.
The open-source edition and full extension store settings separately. You'll need to reconfigure:
- Theme preference (Light/Dark/Auto)
- Custom CSS (if you added any)
- Plugin configuration (if you modified)
Settings NOT affected:
- Browser permissions (you'll need to re-grant file URL access)
- Recent documents (full extension starts with empty history)
- FAQ & Documentation: getmarkview.com/support
- Bug Reports: GitHub Issues

- Questions: GitHub Discussions
- Check if your issue is addressed in the FAQ
- Search existing GitHub issues
- Try disabling other extensions to rule out conflicts
- Check browser console for errors (F12 → Console tab)
Solution:
- Ensure "Allow access to file URLs" is enabled in extension settings
- Refresh the markdown file tab (press F5)
- Try opening a different markdown file
- Check if the URL ends with
.md,.markdown, or.mdx
Solution:
- Verify you installed the full extension (check version in popup)
- Some features require PRO license (check License tab in popup)
- Ensure you're viewing a markdown file (not HTML rendered version)
Solution:
- Verify you copied the complete license key from email
- Check your internet connection (activation requires online access)
- Try again in a few minutes (API rate limiting)
