Mapforge May 2026 release

Just in time for the start of the bike season, Mapforge development in April was dedicated to bicycle tour features.

I wrote a tutorial how to use the new features like:

• Automatic routing of a track based on waypoints with openrouteservice.org
• Importing GPX/KML tracks with option to convert to a routed track
• Edit options for tracks like splitting, reversing, removing single points
• Elevation profile with steepness grades and option to color the track based on it
• Surface overview of bicycle routes
• Adding public bicycle tracks as overlay to your map to plan your route along those
• Compass mode, so you can use Mapforge on your mobile to follow the planned route

Other than the bicycle route improvements, I also switched to the Bree Serif font for headlines, and as a side effect of the waymarkedtrails.org overlay support, it's also possible to overlay any external raster map layer.
Editing the geometry of features is now enabled by selecting the tab in the feature details. This avoids unwanted geometry edits, especially on mobile.
