I advise to support only the Atom Syndication Format (RFC 4287, and also RFC 5005).

XSLT

We can utilize LibXslt to utilize XSLT to convert foreign formats to Atom.

Once LibXslt would support JSON, then we would be able to convert JSON documents.

XML documents:

Atom 0.3, RDF (RSS 0.9x, RSS 1.0, FOAF, DOAP), RSS 2.0, Sitemap, and SMF (Simple Machine Forum).

Mastodon RSS documents are absolutely not compliant with RSS, and my Greasemonkey Newspaper extension fails to realize it properly, unless it has a specific rule for Mastodon.

JSON documents:

Rss-inJSon, JSON Feed, ActivityStream (OStatus and Nostr).

This would be more preferable than having these various of formats coded into Liferea.

Focus

I am working on templates to convert RSS documents into Atom documents.

However, these would change and result in different templates for different formats.

So, I am designing a new XML format called Focuscript to have a template which would automatically generate customized XSLT stylesheets.

Gemini and Twtxt

Gemini and Twtxt probably should be also supported, because they are well documented, easy to parse, and XSLT does not handle plain text documents.

Advantage

This practice, of utilizing standard means to handle that task, would increase the probability to increase rapport between audiences of RSS porjects.
