Update Manager (mintupdate) Crashes, Terminal Shows Warnings About "remote 'office-origin'"

Describe the bug

Running Update Manager from the Mint Menu or the Panel (when pinned) often results in crashes, or it does not run at all (the latter started happening today). In the past, Update Manager would just vanish midway through checking for updates or updating. Today, it just stopped running from the Menu or the Panel. Running it from a terminal today (i.e. running mintupdate) produces warnings in the terminal about being unable to find "remote 'office-origin'" (details below). I could not find anything about 'office-origin' in this context in this bug tracker or on the web in general.

I'd be happy to provide screenshots, but it's impossible to screenshot something that just vanishes or does not run at all. The problem is that it's not on the screen (or it's gone), so I cannot capture a screenshot of it. Any other suggestions for screenshots that would help are welcome. The warnings are in the terminal, so it's just text that I will paste below.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Click on the Mint Menu near the bottom left.
2. Type Update Manager in the search box.
3. Click on Update Manager icon.
4. Today, it does nothing at all, after originally starting Update Manager, which later vanished from the screen.
5. When it worked, it vanished suddenly in the middle of checking for updates or updating.
6. Running mintupdate in Gnome-Terminal today produced the warnings pasted under Crash Reports below.

Expected behavior
Update Manager should run reliably without crashing, vanishing or producing warnings in a terminal.

I'd also like to know:

1. What is "office-origin"?
2. How to remove it from the relevant file or list, if that's the solution.

I ran this in Gnome-terminal: flatpak repair

The mention of "Office" could be a coincidence or a clue.

Software Manager does not list Collabra even with "Show unverified flatpacks" enabled. It was from https://flathub.org/en/apps/com.collaboraoffice.Office
where it says,
"by Collabora Productivity Limited
collaboraoffice.com" with a blue check-mark.

You can disable flatpak updates in mintupdate to avoid the issue for now, or, unless you're still using that flatpak app, remove that remote using the flatpak commandline:

flatpak remote-delete office-origin

@mtwebster Thank you for the quick reply. I have two questions, one about flatpak updates and the other about mintupdate crashing:

1. I'd like to keep Collabra Office and other flatpak apps up to date, at least to keep up with security updates. Is there a different solution, other than disabling updates?

2. My larger problem is that mintupdate often crashes and vanishes from the screen mid-function. I thought that the warnings were a clue, but could the crashes have a different cause?

You mentioned "Fixed by linuxmint/mintcommon@864a78d". It says, "It fails safely but ends up printing a lot of unnecessary warnings." Again, my problem is that mintupdate does not fail safely. It crashes and vanishes from the screen.

Is there a way to troubleshoot and fix that?
