Currently using the smartbackup application leads to a build-up of snapshots on the volume being backed up. There is no facility within the application to remove snapshots.
Having investigated the features available from the NetApp side we are also unable to automate the removal of aged snapshots from volumes where snapshots have been performed by smartbackup. Therefore the only method of removal is manual which is not ideal.
The logical solution to this would be to build functionality within the smartbackup application to remove snapshots older than x only when a new successful snapshot has been taken.
