Updating elevators to run with current Erlang/OTP

Hello,

I recently revisited the elevators application, and decided to work on updating it to match the current Erlang version.

The updated version is on the fork at https://github.com/fredyouhanaie/elevators/ on the update-1 branch. Details of the update are at the top of the README file.

I would like to send a PR, if that is acceptable. The PR will contain a tidier README.

Currently there is no graphics, which I might work on in a month or so, unless someone else has a go :)

I'm happy to redirect this project to yours instead, that will be simpler. I was hoping to modernize this further when I obtained it all these years ago, but I never got around to it.

Thanks for the offer, I'll be happy to continue the modernization/development of the project at my end.

I propose to break the fork to avoid future confusion, but in the interest of provenance, add a paragraph to the history section on this repo.

The license seems sufficient, although, the text "" probably was meant to be "Ericsson AB", which I can change at my end.

If you've had any modernization ideas that you'd like to share, I can add them to my list, but I can't guarantee when they will be done ;-)

Just a quick update for anyone following this thread:

• The "modernization" work is continuing on https://github.com/fredyouhanaie/elevators.
• All the gen_fsm/gen_statem work is complete, but we do not have a GUI, yet.
• However, the "classic" branch now contains a copy of the gs code from Erlang/OTP 19.3.6.13, so one can still see how the GUI used to work.
