Cannot click navbar/sidebar on mobile (iphone)

Describe the bug

The "toggle primary sidebar" and "toggle secondary sidebar" buttons appear on mobile. Clicking them displays the text "toggle..." and highlights them, but a sidebar does not appear.

This issue is present on Safari and Chrome (iphone) on https://sphinx-book-theme.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ and https://opt-syn.github.io/.

Android has not been tested yet.

Is this a recent behaviour change or we don't know if it used to work before?
Also, does it work for the upstream theme, pydata-sphinx-theme?

https://pydata-sphinx-theme.readthedocs.io/en/stable/ works all right for me, I can click on a triple-bar at the top-left corner and a menu pops up.

I found a report in another theme sphinx-doc/alabaster#175 that the logo image doesn't appear. That is also true for me with the Book theme.
