If you are new in .NET what got you interested?

Question

This question is for .NET foundation board candidates who are new to .NET. That means that you got interested in .NET recently. What was the reason for your interest?

Background / More Information

There was mentioned that .NET is not getting much attention from new developers. So it would be good to know, what got your attention and maybe we can replicate that.

About Me

I am .NET developer since version 1.1, so I don't know what is "cool kid's" point of view. And I asked this question, because it's possible to vote for more than 1 candidate and I would really love to see one of newbies in the board.

'New' can be a relative term. I have been a .NET developer for around 3-4 years now, I think that must count! 😀

TBH, I've always been a Microsoft fanboy long before I joined University and have always closely followed all the tech blogs I could cover! During my first year, I stared learning about UWP and it was that very idea of being able to write one code to target all form-factors which brought me to the world of .NET. Also, I always have been very interested in IoT, so I quickly started experimenting with Windows 10 IoT Core, and to be honest, even during it's initial days, it was mind blowing.

Although, as I kept learning, WHAT KEPT ME in .NET ecosystem is it's ability to empower to do almost anything you want to! It was not long after that I stared participating in Hackathons and the power .NET gave me was overwhelming. I could quickly write apps using Xamarin, the backend with .NET Core, write IoT applications on my Raspberry Pi, quickly write bots using the Bot Framework! I mean it never stopped me... And .NET gave me the opportunity to learn so much without any overhead of learning an entirely new framework or language!

So I think, for newbies, specially newbies to the world of programming itself, .NET actually provides great opportunities to learn and explore a lot, with very little overhead after the initial learning curve, within a well supported and resourceful ecosystem!
