Feature: Ship a git version in the repos

Sometimes it's useful to be able to easily install the git version, and having a package manager do it for you would be great I think.

I am working on restoring the git integration using gix instead of git2-rs due to issue we've had with openssl and cross compiling. A current PR is open that I am waiting to hear from some people in the community that will bring back sourcing manifests via git through the use of gix.

If you just want a comtrya manifest to install git, the package.install action is there. It uses the underlying package manager of the system. So if it is Debian, it uses apt. If it's macOS, home-brew (or macports), Arch uses yay, OpenSUSE zipper, NetBSD pkgin, etc.

If what you're asking for is comtrya to be able to pin a version of git to install via the package.install action, this is a long time ask and I am still working through the details. The problem here is, package managers don't uniformly support it.

That is about all I can think of to answer this without some more detail. So if it is something else, I would like to hear more details so I can better understand. Thank you!

I apologize for the ambiguous post,
What I meant is that currently there is the "release" version (currently 0.9.0) being packaged and shipped into the repositories, like the AUR. However, sometimes features are needed which are only available in the latest development version (latest git commit). My suggestion is to add the development-version packages to the repositories, e.g. in the case of AUR, a PKGBUILD which git clones and builds comtrya from the latest commit.

This is something we can look into doing. My plan with releases is to do a seasonal releases. So shortly after Christmas I plan to make the winter release. This is mostly since I'm the only primary one working on the project with a few contributors every once in awhile, it ensures we have releases and at a time space that I feel confident that I can get in new features each release without being burnt out.

I can take a look at setting up some automation to publish the main builds. I can also take a look at the curl script and make sure we can pull the binary from the unreleased section.
