autotag without importing

What I have might be a rather rare use case. Let me describe it first:

I use beets for managing my /Music folder, including tagging and searching and organising into folders. However, there is also a /Music_TODO folder, containing assorted Bandcamp (and other) downloads. My usual habit is to listen to random albums from the TODO folder and, if I like what I hear, run beets over it to tag and move the albums into /Music.

The one thing that could be improved is that I cannot tag albums right inside my TODO folder without having to import them into my library, which I might not even want to do later. I installed MusicBrainz Picard just for this, and that's sad, because

So what I would like to suggest is a beet autotag feature that tags without importing.
