In the Hubs Browser and Design Automation tutorials mention use of callbacks/webhooks

In those tutorials, just point out that in the case of real world applications we would be using callbacks and webhooks instead of polling.

The Hubs Browser sample doesn't work with the derivative service. Are you referring to the polling on the Simple Viewer sample when trying to load a model into the viewer, as seen on the tutorials website?
