I started a long time ago with a single Tasmota ESP32 as a standalone central unit. Maybe that was not the ideal approach, but I have to stick with it for now, as the house renovation is already too far advanced.
In the meantime, I tested Home Assistant and tried to connect this ESP to it via MQTT.
I have several inputs (via PCA/PFA modules) and outputs connected. Everything is implemented and configured using Berry scripts, including some rather hacky functions for dimming and for communication with Tasmota displays.
Since none of these inputs and outputs are visible in Home Assistant, I would like to extend the existing actuator and sensor objects with MQTT topics.
I have never really become comfortable with MQTT. Do I need to publish, subscribe, or both?
