Good Afternoon Everyone,

I have a slightly smaller release for you today.
It mainly focuses on updating libraries and fixing a number a bugs, that was reported on the issue tracker.

I consider the release completely stable, however I'm currently replacing the motherboard of my main
development machine (it was unfortunately faulty), so I couldn't run all the usual tests before this release.
So just to be on the safe side, I'm making todays release a Beta release.

I also just counted up the donations from 2024, so I could share the final amount with all of you as I like to do,
and I was honestly blown away. Icaros has never had this many donations over the span of a year.

I am so grateful for all your support, and I can't thank all of you enough for helping me with
donations, feedback, translations and troubleshooting.

Development was just a bit delayed due to computer issues.

Glad you are taking this project even futher with more file support. I am happy to wait for your JXL support any day. If the JXL release isn't close enough is it possible to add the thumbnailing of jxl if we have the shell extension already installed? I just checked the new beta on my windows 10 LTSC and I have to re-register JXL to enable regular thumnailing again. Thank you for you making windows os tolerable 😜

Yeah, that's not very fast. Hopefully libjxl will speed that up a bit.
JXL is a very strong format, especially when it comes to keeping incredible image quality at a very high compression,
so I would be surprised if development was dropped. Irfanview also uses libjxl, from what I can see, so Icaros would
basically have the same performance and frequent JXL updates as Irfanview.

Glad to know there is real hope....Although I read that it made people doubtful about JXL when google dropped the support in chromium while Floorp browser comes with jxl enabled by default these days and the flag is locked so user can't turn it off. Opening JXL test page in Floorp and it loads instantly unlike regular websites.

I will be looking forward to the day when JXL support comes. Thank you for everything.

That is definitely a shame. I hadn't heard.
With that said I wouldn't be surprised if Google wanted their own format WEBP to be the preferred format among all the new image formats, and therefore limit the support of the other types on their services.

google are quite good at eliminating competitors but JXL loads really really fast in websites compared to webp. I really hope JPEG XL and AVIF will be further optimized as we go on. I used the handy opensource tool JXL converter to convert all my jpegs and tiffs so I will be heavily relying in the future of these image formats.

Also I should have mentioned earlier but the stopping of thumbnailing bug is also only present in windows 10 with Powertoys File extension Preview since preview of svg files of svg is enabled by default so it's not Icaros breaking things. Lots of people like me had thumbnailing stop working in windows 10 when installing powertoys for the first time as svg is enabled by default. The issue was similar with JXL.

Glad to hear that you are getting the financial support you deserve. Icaros provides a lot of value to me and the friends & colleagues I recommended it to, I can tell you that much. There's nothing as good as Icaros on the market right now, be it paid or free (AFAIK).

I hope you can get around to add that "Alpha as Transparency" toggle soon, as it really is the one thing that is missing for my use of Icaros.
But I digress - thank you for your work, thank you for keeping it free. I did donate in the past, it was worth every penny, and would donate again in the future for sure.

The alpha toggle shouldn't be too hard to add, I just need some more free time than I've recently been having.

Can you make an android version? or you know an android app similar to icaros on windows? I tried many file explorers but none could generate thumbnails for some mkv files on android that icaros can for same files on windows.

Making an Android app like that would be an entirely new project with a lot work required, and I unfortunately don't have the time.
Maybe you could talk to one of developers of one of the existing file managers and hear if they could add support for those mkv files?

Try out Material Files. As its related to video files, you can also use file browser included in video players, like - VLC for Android, NOVA Video Player and Kodi.
