Copilot's investigation:

Most likely: ffmpeg is on the user’s interactive shell PATH, but not on the PATH that the app process sees on macOS.

On macOS, GUI apps (double-clicked / launched via Finder/Spotlight) don’t inherit your shell init files (.zshrc, .zprofile, etc.). So which ffmpeg in Terminal can return /opt/homebrew/bin/ffmpeg, while the app still can’t resolve ffmpeg because its environment PATH may not include /opt/homebrew/bin (Apple Silicon Homebrew) or /usr/local/bin (Intel Homebrew).

Common variants of the same root cause:

• They installed Homebrew ffmpeg under /opt/homebrew/bin, but the app’s PATH is something like /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin.
• They start the app from a launcher or login item that has an even more minimal environment.
• They have multiple ffmpeg installs; Terminal finds one, app sees none.
