Regarding the above "you'll loose everything" possibly refers to that News, Pi-Hole and OctoPrint are not included in this fork:

I have spent all night trying to do one of two things. Firstly I tried to upload the LEDmatricClock bin file to my 3.02 marque system, and it didnt work. Secondly I have been trying to compile the LEDmatrixClock code with the arduino IDE and I currently get the following error: Compilation error: expected unqualified-id before 'false'. I have all sorts of library errors that I have overcome with library installs, now I'm stuck on this error.

Has anyone any ideas? please...

Also, you may have to update your account to include your credit card to use even the free account. The marquee scroller requests the weather every minute, so the cost to you would be $4.62us per week. I see a few solutions to this problem. First, we could stay with open weather and update the weather every 2 minutes or more, or change to another free weather provider like open-meteo.com. Any ideas?

That is incorrect.

We use the Free Access API calls, which is totally free and does not require you to share any financial information, like credit card or so.

Only for the "One Call API 3.0", which we do NOT use, there is a "Pay as you call" subscription as described above.

I do not know exactly what happens if you have subscribed for some payment plan, but use only the Free Access API calls. I expect, as for every one, it is still free.

I altered the openweathermapclient.h And my clock is running good until now. News, weather and scrolling text with no hickups. Trye it please, and if it works. Please give a command back.

@heidepiek I don't know what you are tying to do here, but the file you posted is EXACTLY the same as current OpenWeatherMapClient.h.
Besides that, the required change is not in the .h but in the .cpp file.

It`s not just this project that is having problems with the api, the printermonitor is also not working anymore. Most off the older projects stopped working! Bummer! So i have been trying to get the projects running again. And after a couple off hours i got the marquee up and running again. With news, weather octoprint and the scrolling text. I have also got the printermonitor back running with the weather api. So i thougt let me be helpful and share it. Did not mean to get people on the wrong foot. Again, sorry! I tried your clock, and that is running good without problems, but i mis the octoprint. I stil print with an ender 3v2.

The marquee-scroller shall stick to the FREE ACCESS API of open weather map; the paid subscription is out of the question.

Ofcourse, this being open software, you can create your own with paid content as you like.

It's great that this has been clearly decided, but shouldn't the main branch be updated so that marquee_scroller still works with the OpenWeatherMap API key?
The LEDmatrixClock variant works well (at least when I tested it last week) and is certainly a good replacement for marquee_scroller. However, some users might miss other features. I understand the news API doesn’t work properly anymore, as you pointed out, but I still wanted to try it.

I also still use the OctoPrint function, which is unfortunately missing in your version. I realize I didn’t explain well enough that the old marquee_scroller can actually work again with the free OpenWeatherMap API key—previously the wrong header was used in the issue. I’ve tested the version I last posted on two setups at home, and it works reliably.

My goal here is simply to help users get their scroller working again as it used to. You’re certainly skilled enough to decide to stick with the current approach, but in that case, the repository should be updated accordingly. Of course, that would be up to the original author, who may have put this project on hold.

I have to apologize here; upon the remark from cryo that I received in my notification I responded without realizing it was an issue on Qrome and not on my own repo, so I changed my reply in more general terms, but have to realize I can't talk for Qrome.

For project Qrome/marquee-scroller it does not receive the required OpenWeatherMap API update in neither form.

For the forked project rob040/LEDmatrixClock, it is now fully functional and it will stick to the free access OWM API, as per my comment above.

If you need Octoprint you have the following options:

1. create and maintain your own fork; you already made a pretty good start with last OpenWeatherMapClient.zip
2. use the print monitor with OLED display
3. use the Octopint (OctoPi) web interface
4. use an MQTT gateway to send messages to the LED matrix display

In my opinion, the Octoprint implementation on marquee scroller is just too limited and the used 'progress bar' is not intuitive. The LED matrix display isn't suited for this usage; the OLED display is much better suited, though I have no experience with that, as I use the OctoPi webinterface. Besides, an 3D printer is best monitored with your own presence.
