This issue has already been resolved.
PR #432 (commit 2160d59) fully replaced pkg_resources and setuptools with the packaging library across the entire codebase — including fades/cache.py, fades/helpers.py, fades/parsing.py, setup.py, and all tests. This issue can be closed.
