Cannot boot to bios with the P40 installed.

Please help. When I insert the P40 GPU, the board beeps 8 times what basically means "graphics card issue". I sent back the last card, bought a new one and same issue occurs.

When I remove the card, I have to reset cmos or even reflash the bios to make the board boot again. Sometimes I even have to rearrange the RAM modules.

The board is a gigabyte X99 UD4P rev. 1.0 with latest bios installed. I see no "Above 4 G support" option any more since my bios update. According to this thread, the x99 chipset should work very good.

My other graphics card is a Nvidia 1070. The power supply has 800W capacity. I used the 2x8pin to 1x8pin connector.

What can I do now?

Uhg. I can't offer a solution, but what you describe is EXACTLY what I'm experiencing with my current build, and that's a discouraging sign.

My board is the same X99-UD4P rev 1.0 with F23 bios. Everything is fine until I add n P40 cards. Once I've added a card and powered on, I have a boot loop that requires removing the cards and clearing bios to fix. After many attempts with one UD4P board, I was eventually unable to recover the motherboard from the loop.

Target build is to have all 4 cards (1080 + 3xP40 cards, 78GB total) fed by a 1300W power supply, with a 40 lane E5-26xx v4 CPU. I have a second, identical motherboard as well as an X99-SLI that are my next steps.

If I discover anything I'll add to this issue.

I think I have this figured out, and the news is not good. The Tesla series cards need a BIOS feature which is usually labeled "Above 4G Support," which changes the memory addresses available to the cards. Without this feature, the P40 cards will never work.

"Above 4G" is not supported on both the Gigabyte X99-UD4P and the Gigabyte X99-SLI. Finding an X99 board which does support the mapping is key to getting this working.

yes, there was. First thing I checked. But I do not know the exact version it was included, it was just "older" before updating.

Hi. I have a Gigabyte X99-UD4P and initially had the same problems as you here. Yes the issue is with the bios, and yes Gigabyte never released a bios for the UD4P with Above 4G Decoding available.

After spending a day on it I managed to get a working solution. What I did was take F22 for the X99-UD4 (the non-p version of the board), which has Above 4G Decoding already available in the bios (F22 is the only version I believe, anything > F22 and it was removed). I was able to flash directly to my X99-UD4P with the modified efiflash.exe (0.80 mod) (https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/tool-efiflash-v0-80-v0-85-v0-87-for-gigabyte-mainboards/34071) which disables the sanity checks when flashing the bios (so we can flash a UD4 bios on a UD4P). Run the command with "efiflash X99UD4.F22 /C /DB". Once the machine boots (it will shut off and restart), open bios and select "Windows 8/10 Features" => "Windows 8/10", then "CSM Support" => "Disabled", then go into "Peripherals" and set "Above 4G Decoding" => "Enabled". Once that is done save and shut down. Set the CPU Mode switch to 2 on the motherboard (not sure if this is absolutely required, but my setup worked when set to 2, also know as the OC mode, or the mode that enables the extra CPU pins). Restart and boot into your OS, then run the ReBarState program (https://github.com/xCuri0/ReBarUEFI/releases), I just built it on linux. Then set your rebar size, 32 (or unlimited) worked for me. Once that is done shut down again and finally install the P40 in a slot other than 1. Restart your system and it will work. It seems stable so far, I just got this setup today so will keep testing. No one else has done this with the UD4P as far as I can tell, so I wanted to share.
