Proposal

Please re-state the problem that we are trying to solve in this issue.

The align-deps tool is blocking the React Native upgrade because our current react-navigation packages are incompatible with the target React Native version. We need to upgrade react-navigation to proceed with the React Native upgrade.

What is the root cause of that problem?

The current react-navigation packages are on older versions that don't support the newer React Native version we want to upgrade to:

Current versions:

• @react-navigation/native: 7.1.10
• @react-navigation/native-stack: 7.3.14
• @react-navigation/stack: 7.3.3
• @react-navigation/material-top-tabs: 7.2.13

These versions have peer dependency requirements that conflict with the target React Native version, causing align-deps to fail validation.

What changes do you think we should make in order to solve the problem?

1. Update react-navigation packages in package.json to the latest stable versions:

   • @react-navigation/native → latest (7.x)
   • @react-navigation/native-stack → latest (7.x)
   • @react-navigation/stack → latest (7.x)
   • @react-navigation/material-top-tabs → latest (7.x)

2. Review and update peer dependencies that react-navigation requires:

   • Ensure react-native-screens is at a compatible version
   • Ensure react-native-safe-area-context is at a compatible version
   • Verify react-native-gesture-handler compatibility

3. Test navigation flows after upgrade:

   • Verify all navigation stacks work correctly
   • Test deep linking functionality
   • Test modal presentations and screen transitions
   • Verify back button and gesture navigation behavior

4. Address any breaking changes from the react-navigation migration guides if upgrading across major versions
