@bouweandela pooch is simply amazing. It's made my life so easy over on geovista. I can't recommend it more highly.

I use it to download and cache versioned assets, and provision a click CLI so that users can easily download assets, or simply leave geovista to use pooch on the fly at runtime to download the assests as and when they're needed.

This would be really useful to do when we update this repository with CMIP7 data next year, to avoid bloating PyPI and conda-forge storage with data. The package could then be just the Python module that uses pooch to pull the data off github.
