UX Tweaks #97

While playing with DB I've noticed some more usability tweaks to labels that would be helpful. :)

There's plenty of redundant labeling on the product edit page that is already intuitive, and other clues already tell you what they are, so it becomes "eye clutter" (I do UX stuff for a living) :)

I've screenshotted the page and marked them to make it easier.

The red X's mean to remove what's directly under it. from top to bottom:

  • We already know it's an edit page, the breadcrumb above it even says so; so the word is superfluous; "product" is all that's needed here.
  • "Cross-store Notifications" is all that's needed here. The first 2 words should be hyphenated, and pluralizing "notifications" is also proper. We don't need "settings" at all, since we already know we're on the settings changes page.
  • "Favorite" (without "add to") is also good enough, and intuitive. Just like seeing "bookmark" with an "on/off" type of icon is a well-known intuitive action in other software.
  • Under the Stores field, there are already dollar signs (and a percentage sign) in the field, so we know we're dealing with "price" and "percentage", so those literal words aren't needed in the column header. Simply looking into the field below makes that known. A lot of space/UI clutter can be saved in that row by removing those words.
  • Similarly, the "at" in "updated at" is unnecessary, since "updated" is plenty. We see it's a timestamp just below it.
  • It could also be helpful to add a "added" column and timestamp next to it. It can help when wanting to know how long you've been watching for something to hit your desired price range.
  • "History" is plenty in that group, since we already know it's about price history. And (I'm assuming, since I can't see anything :) there) it'll also be showing prices in it, so it's intuitive that it's about price histories.

That's all for now! :p

No insult or anything like that intended, just trying to be helpful! :)
