VS 2026 MCP server manager install button disabled

The button is disabled, and there is an error message, "Unsupported registry name: other"

I've been searching for some kind of documentation that could describe what this is about, but I haven't found anything. Gemini recommended deleting the mcp.json settings, which I did, and it didn't help. So I can only guess that it's something in the server code that Visual Studio doesn't like.

I also tried in VSCode. It installs but when I try to use it I get this error popup

Thanks for the feedback! This VS plugin hasn't been updated for a very long time since the date in your picture. We will try to patch it on VS. CC @dsarno and @msanatan, who might be more familiar with the VS plugin management.

PS: question, does VS2022 support built-in LLM like Copilot? It is not listed as one of our current configuration, just curious

Yes, it was built in from the beginning. MCP servers and agent mode were added some time ago.

I was able to add the server manually by opening the chat settings and clicking the + button. It created the same JSON with a couple of extra fields.

EDIT: I realize now that I typed 2022 instead of 2026. I have no idea why I did that. Sorry for the confusion. From what I remember, 2022 does have support, but it's not fully integrated like in 2026. To be clear, I'm using VS2026.
