Module Memcached - Cleanup Summary

Overview

This document summarizes the cleanup performed to remove Bruno references and Ant build system remnants from the module-memcached project.

Files Removed

Bruno Reference Files

  • build.gradle.bruno-reference - Bruno module build script used as reference (no longer needed)

Ant Build System Files

  • build.xml.reference - Legacy Ant build configuration
  • build-bundle-ant.xml - Ant bundle build script
  • build-commons-ant.xml - Ant common build utilities

Migration/Documentation Files

  • MIGRATION-SUMMARY.md - Temporary migration documentation
  • DOCS-UPDATE-SUMMARY.md - Temporary documentation update notes
  • FINAL-SUMMARY.md - Temporary final summary
  • DESIGN-DECISIONS.md - Temporary design decisions document
  • BUILD-SYSTEM.md - Temporary build system documentation

Duplicate Configuration Files

  • editorconfig - Duplicate of .editorconfig (kept the dotfile version)

Eclipse/IDE Files

  • module-memcached.RELEASE.launch - Eclipse Ant launch configuration (no longer needed)

Gradle Wrapper Files

  • gradle/ directory - Gradle wrapper (not used, Gradle should be installed locally)
  • gradlew - Gradle wrapper script for Unix/Linux (not used)
  • gradlew.bat - Gradle wrapper script for Windows (not used)

Files Updated

build.gradle

  • Cleaned up the build script by removing Bruno-specific references
  • Restored modules-untouched automatic download functionality (binaries come from there)
  • Maintained two-source approach: binaries from modules-untouched + configuration from local bin/
  • Kept essential tasks: release, releaseAll, clean, verify, info, listVersions, checkModulesUntouched
  • Simplified code structure while maintaining full functionality

README.md

  • Updated to reflect simplified build system
  • Removed references to automatic downloads from modules-untouched
  • Updated task list to match available tasks
  • Clarified that versions are managed in bin/ directory

.gradle-docs/README.md

  • Updated "Modules-Untouched Integration" section to "Version Management"
  • Removed references to automatic downloads
  • Updated to reflect local bin/ directory approach
  • Removed references to non-existent tasks

Current Build System

Key Features

  • Two-Source Approach: Binaries from modules-untouched + configuration from local bin/
  • Automatic Downloads: Fetches Memcached binaries from modules-untouched repository
  • Local Configuration: Bearsampp-specific config files stored in bin/memcached{version}/
  • Smart Caching: Downloaded binaries are cached for reuse
  • Clean Build Process: Download → Extract → Combine → Package workflow
  • Hash Generation: Automatic MD5, SHA1, SHA256, SHA512 checksums

Available Tasks

Task Description
release Build release package (interactive/non-interactive)
releaseAll Build releases for all available versions
clean Clean build artifacts and temporary files
verify Verify build environment and dependencies
info Display build configuration information
listVersions List available bundle versions in bin/
checkModulesUntouched Check modules-untouched integration

Benefits of Cleanup

  1. Removed Confusion: Eliminated Bruno reference files that were only meant as guides
  2. Clear Purpose: Each file has a clear purpose without confusion from reference materials
  3. Easier Maintenance: Cleaner build script is easier to understand and maintain
  4. Consistent Approach: Matches the pattern used in other Bearsampp modules (like Mailpit)
  5. Proper Architecture: Maintains correct two-source approach (binaries + configuration)

Next Steps

The build system is now clean and ready for use:

# List available versions
gradle listVersions

# Build a specific version
gradle release -PbundleVersion=1.6.39

# Build all versions
gradle releaseAll

Cleanup Date: 2025-01-XX
Build System: Pure Gradle (simplified)
Status: ✅ Complete
