Data API Builder running as a windows service

Can Data API Builder be run as a Windows Service, and what’s the best way to implement that natively?

There are a few similar questions dating back to 3y, but at the minimum if it's not natively packaged that way could we get a GitHub example detailing the steps using the proposed "Publish an ASP.NET Core app to IIS" or "Host ASP.NET Core in a Windows Service".

This is important for running in production environments.

Thanks for reaching out!

DAB doesn't currently support native Windows Service packaging and it's not on our near-term roadmap at this time. That said, we will discuss this internally and update this thread if anything changes.
Regarding IIS hosting, DAB uses Kestrel as its web server, so hosting it behind IIS as a reverse proxy is theoretically possible but isn't officially tested or documented.
For production deployments, we recommend the hosting options outlined in https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/data-api-builder/deployment/. If this is a capability more users need, please upvote this discussion so we can factor that into future planning.

I would highly recommend adding running dab-config as a windows service to the roadmap especially for customers who are working with on-prem systems. This is going to be a key enabler. At the minimum, if that team provide a small example in github with the steps to wrap it based in as a windows service this will give us more comfort in the use of this for production..
